Born Guayaquil, Ecuador, December 7, 1944.

Primary and Secondary School at La Salle Christian Brothers and Salesians H.S. in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Graduated with AFS scholarship at Watertown H.S., Wisconsin 1963.

Studies: B.A. in Social and Political Sciences, 1968; Attorney at Law, 1970 incorporated to Bar; Dr. in Jurisprudence, 1975 (at the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil); Graduate: Fulbright – Fletcher Scholarship Fellow, -Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University) and Harvard Law School-, Medford and Cambridge, Massachussetts, U.S.A., M.A. International Business Law, 1976-77.

 Teaching and academic experience: Professor of Municipal Law (1973-2009); Contracts Seminar (4 years) and Arbitration in International Businesses (2 years), School of Law of the Catholic University; and International Business Law at the Entrepreneurs Economics School of the same University, 4 years. Dean of the School of Law, Catholic University, 1986-88.  International Arbitration Professor, Holy Spirit University, 2003-2005. Speaker and attendant at various national and international seminars. At present Arbitration Professor, Graduate Level at the Catholic University.

Positions held: Legal advisor to the Finance Minister of Ecuador, 1980-85 -part time- while in private practice; Deputy Justice of the Superior District Court of Appeals of Guayaquil, 1993-96 –part time position-; arbitrator of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce, 2003-2005; member of the Court of International Arbitration at the ICC, Paris, 1993-2002; Deputy member of the National Assembly for the drafting of the new Constitution of Ecuador 1998; Legal Advisor for COFIEC Bank and National Financing Corporation (CFN) -State owned Financing Company-, 1977-80, 1990-92 and 1984-1990 respectively; Legal advisor for national and multinational enterprises, among others: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Chiquita Brands, ROOFTEC, in different years during practice.

Publications: articles in the Law Review of the Catholic University and the Guayaquil Bar Review.

Chief Justice and Justice of the Second Civil and Commercial Chamber of the Supreme Court of Ecuador, December 1, 2005 – Octuber 2008. At present in private practice and of Counsel at the Law Firm again.

Languages: fluent Spanish and English; French (intermediate level).

As international lawyer, lecturer and former high Public Official, I am prepared to conduct courses as invited professor or guest speaker at the undergraduate and graduate university levels, on international and comparative law, international arbitration procedures and theory, political Ecuadorian and Latin American affairs; in English or Spanish.
